Lady with Fan

Our Lady with Fan Moshixel mosaic is the largest-size mosaic we have created to date. It was designed based on the suggestion of a customer. It shows the depiction of a female Chinese opera character in traditional costume holding a golden fan. The Lady's beautifully colored formal headpiece is a "phoenix coronet", a guan ("crown") identifying the lady to be a queen, bride, imperial consort, or other female nobility. Two flowers (one red and one pink) are shown in the middle of the golden fan. The mosaic uses a lavish assortment of colors to depict the Lady's crown, while her facial features are kept in nearly complete white. Dark colors are used only to portray her eyes, which shyly point downwards behind the fan. The mosaic renders the gold color of the fan using a combination of yellow and orange, letting the white and red of the flowers stand out. The background is held in green, blue and red and forms a stark contrast to the Lady and particulary the exuberance of her crown by employing regular patterns based on Bayer dithering. These background patterns form a sequence of concentric rings that seamlessly flow from a warm mostly-green-red right next to the lady, to a much darker blue tone towards the left edge of the mosaic.

The Lady with Fan Moshixel mosaic consists of 1,508 Rubik's cubes arranged in a 58x26 grid pattern. It is 64x29 inches in size, and is framed.
